First Tech Fund announces open application period for 2024 fellowship program

FTF will be selecting 100 new students for their 2024 high school fellowship program, beginning September 2024

NEW YORK, NY - First Tech Fund—a nonprofit dedicated to empowering low income NYC high school students in identifying, navigating, and attaining academic and professional opportunities—today announced that it has opened applications for its 2024 high school fellowship program, which begins September of 2024.

Through First Tech Fund's (FTF) free, year-long high school fellowship program, over 300 students across NYC have accessed mentorship, college preparation, career readiness, free technology, and pathways to careers of the future since 2020.

"Our fellows consistently impress me with their drive and dedication to academic, personal, and professional growth. Despite the barriers in their way, we're here to help bridge the gap through our weekly virtual programming, our in-person corporate, social, and community opportunities, and mentorship. Our mission is to support students where they're at. With an extensive network of volunteers, mentors, and our growing staff, we can provide more individualized guidance on skill building, college access, career exploration, and more. We're excited to welcome the next cohort of fellows to join the FTF community in 2024!"  said Kerianne Baylor, Senior Program Manager at First Tech Fund.

“I want to express my gratitude to the First Tech Fund fellowship program that held virtual meetings about the college application process, but also gave me the motivation to finish my college essays with guidance and assistance from knowledgeable mentors:” said Hridi R., a high school senior from Queens who is part of First Tech Fund’s 2023 fellowship program.

The program opened its application this month and students have until May 11th, 2024 to apply to be part of the program - FTF will be accepting 100 students in their next cohort. There is no GPA requirement and the program is looking for rising 11th and 12th grade students across the five boroughs of New York City. Students must attend school in New York City to be eligible for this program (i.e students residing in or going to school in Long Island and Westchester are not eligible).

The program runs from September 2024 to June 2025 via weekly, hybrid workshops in the evenings where students receive digital skills training, personalized mentorship, career exploration, and networking opportunities to build social capital. Workshops cover various topics including navigating the college admissions process, resume writing, financial literacy, brand building, and more. Through virtual and in person and virtual career panel events, fellows gain insight into a broad range of fields including law, medicine, finance, business, public service, technology, and more. Fellows get access to FTF’s network of corporate partners, who host mock interview sessions, networking opportunities, and more.
